Weekly Update 26 March 2021

Hi Everyone

So excited to be finally coming out of lockdown!

We’re thrilled to announce the return to in person sessions starting with Track at Horspath on next Thursday (this is not an April Fool!). As this is an organised Covid safe activity we are allowed up to 30 athletes for this session so fill your boots! It will be so lovely to finally see fellow club members in person after all these dark months of lockdown. Bookings open on the website 48 hours before the session so it’s back to fastest fingers once again I’m afraid.

Thanks once again to our excellent volunteers – the coaching team and to Georgie as Covid Officer for sorting out all of the behind the scenes admin to make this all so smooth and seamless in terms of our return to play. It may not appear obvious but there’s a whole heap of pain in terms of the admin, bookings, training and reading up the complicated guidance changes from the government and WTF (sorry I mean BTF) so kudos to all of them. Starting from next weekend the ride leaders will be going out in groups of up to six so if you’re a nervous rider and want some company and/or route knowledge and technical assistance there’s no better way to get to know the back roads of Oxfordshire (and Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire and even Gloucestershire!). Look out for the sign ups once we get them up on the website.

Rumour has it that the lake temperature is now up to a balmy 9 degrees, once we’re up to 11 we can restart our open water sessions (still not interested but I know some of you crazy folks will be). Anyway now’s the time to get out your wetsuits to check in case, like mine, they have mysteriously shrunk during the last lockdown.

May be it’s because I had my first vaccine dose this week, but I’m now feeling very optimistic about racing going ahead this summer, domestically at least. So no excuses not to start to get back into the groove in earnest.
