Weekly Update 21 January 2022

Hi Everyone

First up, a polite request to members in terms of session sign up etiquette. I have noticed that there have been some cancellations quite late on in the day ahead of some sessions (track last night and Kidlington this evening for example). While we work within the session limits imposed on us by BTF, slots for swim sessions in particular are like gold dust. I know that there’s a real scramble to get in as soon as registration opens 48 hours ahead of the session, and I really appreciate people taking turns and not hogging both the swim sessions. However, late cancellation means that valuable slots which the Club pays for and coaches selflessly give of their time to run can go unused which is such a crying shame when there is so much demand at this time of the year, even in non-covid times. Rant over, but please do cancel as early as possible so that other Club members have some warning and can change their plans to use the spaces.

On Monday I had the privilege to attend the first coaches meeting of the year. It’s such a pleasure to meet (virtually) with our dedicated coaching team admirably led by lead coach Nathan. The discussions touched on a wide number of areas: increasing the pipeline of new coaches which has been severely restricted by the lack of courses being held by BTF over the past two years; further continuing development and training for the existing coaches, paid for by the Club; ideas for further sessions responding to suggestions from members; and free Club membership for coaches who are members solely to provide coaching and who don’t take up training slots in Club sessions. Many thanks to all of the coaching team for the ongoing support and effort to provide the sessions that I know members value so much!

Some good news in that we hope to start a new swim session in Abingdon, details tbc but fingers crossed so watch this space.

Training days are all back to normal next week, and we also welcome back chief Yogi Rebecca to her regular Tuesday slot (highly recommended for core strength and improving the flexibility of all triathletes).

Finally, have a great week!

Any questions, as ever just ping me.
