Open Water Sessions and Blenheim Palace Tri Volunteering

Hello OxfordTri Family,

I hope that this finds you well. It’s been a hugely exciting week with our OWS Coaches sessions going live with the support of Blenheim Palace Triathlon. They have been a huge support to us and as a result we have an exciting opportunity to give back and to support what is an amazing event. Please do consider volunteering even if it is only for a morning or an afternoon and help is greatly appreciated plus there are some additional perks so read below!

God Bless

Open Water Familiarisation Sessions

As mentioned previously, in the month of May we are running coached Open Water sessions alongside our Saturday Morning Social Swims at Queenford Lake. These are open to both members* and non-members.

The sessions will include focusing on helping swimmers acclimatize to the water, mastering breathing techniques, and becoming comfortable with having their face in the water. Our goal is to have participants feel more confident swimming in open water and is overseen by out excellent coaching team.

Blenheim Tri Volunteering

We are partnering with Motiv Sports who are the new organisers of Blenheim Tri and as a result have received some marketing support around out OWS sessions and they have given us already two complimentary spaces for the Triathlon and then Oxford 1/2 coming up later in the year. These will be drawn at random for those of help out volunteering over the weekend and depending on numbers we may get even more spaces.

They have asked OxfordTri if we would be willing to take on a lead role in supporting the running of the transition area for the duration of the weekend. Transition is the perfect place for a Tri Club to help out as it’s ofter where that Tri specific knowledge comes in incredibly handy.

We are still finalising some minor details however would love you to consider if you would possibly be able to volunteer and in doing so support the Blenheim Tri event but also us as a club. Our partnership with Motiv Sports enables us to continue to offer the great value that we do to you our members.

The shifts over the weekend are as follows;

Saturday 1st of June 2024

06:30 – 12:30 and 12:00 – 18:00

Sunday 2nd of June 2024

06:30 – 11:30 and 11:00 – 15:00

If you can volunteer please sign up using the following link – https://forms.gle/aStpgLh4Kimh2gTF8

Why not sign up and make it an awesome weekend with your fellow Oxford Tri Members?

Open Water Swim Sessions

We are really excited to be back there this year and I’m sure that you will agree that we are incredibly fortunate to be able to use this space not just once but twice a week at points throughout the summer.

Our Saturday morning sessions which run 8-9am will be starting the first weekend in May and running through till September.

Our Wednesday evening sessions which run 7-8pm will be starting the first Wednesday in June running through till September. This is slightly different from last year however analysing the attendance and considering the need for the club to make some savings we have decided that this would be in the best interest for all. This means that our pool sessions on Wednesday night are set to continue through to that point unless there is a significant drop of in attendance.

We are also going be having our Burgers and Beers social not once but twice and have plans to trial a ‘bring a buddy’ session in the alternative months that we’ve not got the BBQ fired up.

Finally, to make these sessions happen we need you to share responsibility when it comes to helping out supervise the session. We will share more about what this role entails over the coming weeks but do be thinking about helping in this role at least once throughout the summer.

I hope you are as excited to get back in the lake as we are!
