Weekly Update 13 May 2022

Hi Everyone

Like many other Club members I have been inspired and just a little star struck by our amazing athletes racing last weekend. A very special mention has to go to Rebecca for her second place in St George, a Club first to podium at the Ironman World Champs and collect an umeke podium prize (the Hawaii ones are traditional hand carved wooden bowls, the St George ones look like individual blown glass). On the cycling front we had the Club entry into the Fred Whitton Challenge, with some very impressive times. Whether or not riders avoided the dreaded ‘foot down’ on the 33% section of Hardknott Pass is however not recorded … More locally our runners produced some great runs at the 10k Town and Gown. Definitely starting to feel a lot like a normal race season now!

Coming up this weekend we have the Outlaw Half in Nottingham – good luck to all Members racing, looking forward to more photos and race reports.

On the training side of things, now that we have a lot more choice and capacity, especially when it comes to swim sessions, we are starting to allow session bookings seven days in advance. This is a bit of an experiment for the summer season so that Club members can plan out their weekly training in a more structured way. If we see a lot of on the day cancellations then we’ll have to consider reverting to the 48 hour rule. Please be considerate everyone!

Last week saw our first open water lake session at Queenford which was a great success. I am looking forward to welcoming a strong turnout tomorrow morning with the water now officially being warm enough to tempt the summer only swimming crew (like me!).

On the kit front we are now looking to reduce the amount of stock we have held since pre covid times, so there are some great discounts on offer if you are looking to upgrade your racing and training wardrobe. Wearing Club kit is also a great way to promote the Club and spread the OxfordTri love, so it is an opportunity to turn on the style in addition to showing your pride at being a Club member.

On that note it’s very heartening to see our membership numbers gradually tick up each week. However we are still some way off our pre covid levels and there’s so much on offer at unbeatable value. Please do spread the word about how great your Club is and let’s see if we can build some momentum with our membership numbers. This will be essential to continuing to offer a great programme of training and coaching, and investment in further venue bookings and coaching qualifications.

As ever a massive thanks to all of our dedicated coaching team, and the leadership provided by Lead Coach Nathan.

Have a great week!
