Busy Sessions and Oxford Aquathlon Publicity

Hello OxfordTri Family!

I hope that this finds you well and that you’ve had a good week and managed to avoid the majority of hail and torrential showers over the past few days. It’s been a busy old week and great to get along to a couple of sessions. It’s so amazing to see these being full. Just a two quick things on this;

  • If you do miss out on the session a trick is to set an alarm for the session start time that you are missing. That way you’ll be able to sign up for next week’s session before all those who are currently taking part do. This is as fair as we can possibly make it but it does take a bit of remembering.
  • If you are unable to sign up for a session due to it having no spaces, please don’t attend that session, as we may not be able to permit you entry. (Sometimes sessions show as lesser numbers but this is often because we have trial members attending who have not yet been set up on the website).

Again, I just wanted to say a massive thanks to those who do communicate via the website when spaces open. I recognise that there are people not on Facebook my suggestion to you would be to check the evening before a session or first thing in the morning this seems to be when gaps open up.

Finally, I just wanted to ask for your continued help with regards to publicising the Aquathlon in April. We are currently at 10 sign ups which is great considering we’ve had limited publicity however we are aware that to make an event enjoyable for all you do need some form of serious mass. Our target we set a couple of weeks ago was 40 so we are a little off that. As a regular feature we will share some details below but do be thinking of anyone you could invite perhaps you challenge a collegue, partner or friend signing up with them!

Also, I had some great feedback from one of our members this weeks with regards to some things not quite working right with our website thanks so much for that and a little reminder that if you do see anything like that or have any feedback with regards to coaching or other things, don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the committee members or myself via the email below.

I hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you at some sessions next week.

God Bless

Craig

Oxford Aquathlon

We have shared over the past couple of weeks about our Aquathlon that we are partnering with British Triathlon and their “Swim Bike Run” program to run here in Oxford at the Leys Pool and Park.

The Aquathlon will take place on the 28th of April with racing starting at 9am. The format is a 200m Pool Swim and 3km Run. The entry will cost £20 making it an incredibly accessible event to our local community of Oxford and beyond.

We are now at the point where we are really seeking to get the word out. Over the next couple of weeks we will try to get fliers to all of our sessions so please do be thinking if you could possibly put some up at work, your local cafe or perhaps even hand out to a couple of neighbours who might be interested. We also have information about the event on social media the internet so find some links below that you could also share. Also a little shout out to the ladies who are bossing it atm with over 80% of our current sign ups being women!

Secretary Vacancy

As you may have picked up on in our newsletter a few weeks ago we have sadly said Goodbye to Zara who has left Oxford for an incredibly exciting opportunity in Norway. This means that we now have a vacancy in our committee team for Secretary. Last week slightly short of time I posted a list of things that Zara has done in her role as secretary. Reading through it later I realise that it seems like quite a lot but both myself and Zara wanted to highlighted that it’s a role that often it’s a role that takes no more than an hour a week.

We are both more than happy to speak to anyone who is interested in possibly supporting the club through this role. You can reach our by emailing info@oxfordtri.co.uk

Cross Country Round 5 – Post Race Social + Volunteer Shoutout

Next month is our final race of the Cross Country Season on the Sunday the 3rd at Henley Showground. Traditionally we have stopped on route home for some cheese toasties at the Cheese Shed at Nettlebed. This is also where we have our prize giving for those competing in the Cross Country. It’s a great time together so do be thinking if you can join us especially if you are running.

We are also required to provide a marshal for this last event so if you think you’d be able to help out by volunteering please don’t hesitate to let us know via chair@oxfordtri.co.uk
