Hello OxfordTri Family,

I hope that this finds you well and that you’ve managed to get out and enjoy a bit of the sun today. As you’ll see below its been a busy week. Firstly a massive shout out to everyone who helped out at our first open water swim familiarisation session last Saturday it was an amazing time and we’re looking forward to round two tomorrow. Secondly and hopefully we’ll have a little feature in coming weeks but another huge shout out to Emma, Leigh and James who all had some excellent results racing over the past week. If you do take part in any events please do share with us how you get on, you can do this though our Facebook group or by tagging on via social media.

I’m away to enjoy some of the sun, have a great weekend and see you at a session soon.

God Bless

Member of the Month – April

We are delighted to announce that our Member of the Month for April is Sonya Godley. Sonya has been a member of the club since last year and is a regular at our Monday and Tuesday night swims. In April not only did she race at the Radley triathlon where she finished 2nd in her age category but was a key part of the team helping out at our Aquathlon. She has shown great commitment to her training despite a number of setbacks and we are excited to see what the future holds. Sonya thanks for being part of out amazing OxfordTri Family!

Bike and Run Time Trial (BaRTT) – Stuart

The days are longer, the evenings are warmer, race season in nearly upon us. That means it is time for return of the Bike and Run Time Trial (BaRTT).

BaRTT will once again be held at Oxsrad this Tuesday. This is a great opportunity to test your bike, run and transition skills, or hone your race preparation, all with a bit of fun thrown in with fellow members.

The run route is a 1-mile loop around Old Marston with a mix of pavement, path and sports field and the bike route is over a 6-mile loop, familiar to many, up the hill into Elsfield and back though Woodeaton.

Athletes start in groups of similar level (sometimes individually) with time gaps between each group. Slower athletes start earlier, and faster athletes start later to ensure that no one is left on the course on their own and everyone finishes at about the same time.

Timings

18:50 – Pre-event brief – All athletes to attend

19:01 – First athlete starts

19:20 – Last athlete starts

20:30 – Everyone finished

20:45 – Optional liquid refreshment

More information and sign up can be found on our website via the following event link – https://www.oxfordtri.uk/sessions/bike-and-run-time-trials-bartt-2024-05-14/

4th May Open Water Familiarisation Review – Sean

Over 50 people signed up for our first Open Water Familiarisation session last week, thankfully it was dry, not too windy, a bit of sun even, but the lake was cold!! While those who’ve been enjoying the lake all winter will tell you 13 degrees is warm, the vast majority agreed with me!!!

We got everyone parked and registered thanks to Cicely, Clive, Jon, Katie and Sarah’s uber efficiency, safety briefing done, quick warm up and then Nathan delivered his acclimatisation masterpiece.

The groups were divided up based on their levels of confidence in the water and our talented coaches progressed them through an excellent session. We had about 10 coaches and even more member helpers in the water, plus Stuart x2 and Paul, providing supervision cover.

The smiles on everyone’s faces when they got out was incredible. WOW what a team, the feedback was superb, we delivered another top drawer experience, really helping to transform their confidence and progress towards, various events, but primarily Blenheim Tri. On behalf of all the athletes I spoke to, and myself, THANKYOU, thankyou for helping make it such a special experience.

Looking forward to doing it all again tomorrow, most roles are covered, however if you’d like to help out in the water with swimmers, the jist is meet me at the cafe for a 7:45 sign up and briefing. Have a great weekend.
