Starting with some sad news, as posted to the Club Facebook page, Club founder Mike Dunmore sadly passed away recently following a long illness. He did manage to get out of hospital and was with his loved ones at home at least. Whether you realise it or not, we all owe a huge debt of gratitude to Mike for starting this amazing Club all those years ago back in 1988, before many of today’s members were even born. Mike was a stand out athlete in his day, but his legacy in creating the Club and coaching many of the Club’s international representatives and members who have themselves gone on to become triathlon coaches is nothing short of inspirational. There will be more to follow in time once we’ve had a chance for this to sink in and for us to reflect upon it some more but all of our thoughts go out to his family at this time.
In other news as some of you may have heard I got hit by a car this week – freewheeling in a cycle lane, which just goes to show you really need to be properly alert at all times when you’re out on your bikes. Nothing broken thankfully but there’s now some impressive bloodstains on the High Street pavement and I can now tick an ambulance ride off my bucket list.
Luckily there has been lots of really fantastic tri related sports on offer this week as I sit back with my painkillers. I hope everyone has been able to watch the amazing gold medal performance from the mixed relay team from last weekend, together with the swimming, track cycling and athletics.
The Team GB performance was no doubt inspired by our own relay event taking place on 21 August. Sign up is open here followed by a social event for competitors plus friends and family.
Finally, there’s no OW swimming tomorrow morning as Mr and Mrs M are having the day off … to compete in the London Triathlon. Good luck to them both and to all other Club members racing this weekend.
Any questions, as ever just ping me.
