Weekly Update 10 June 2022

Hi Everyone

Firstly well done to everybody who raced 113 last weekend. It was a lot of fun to see Club members out competing together on the course, in spite of the rather unseasonable weather. Some amazing results including no less than three first places in age group, led by Hannah as 6th female overall and coaches Sean and Jane. A special shout out too has to go to Jack for completing his first ever triathlon with a big smile on his face (at the finishing line at least!). Special thanks to our amazing support team of Lee, Liz, Ian and Sarah for enduring all the cold and wet and providing some much needed morale boosting cheers.

In terms of training timetables we are pleased to add Tuesday evening Queenford lake open water swims to the calendar starting on 14th June (start time to be confirmed shortly). This coincides with our usual seasonal pause in the Thame and Kidlington pool sessions until September as we enjoy (!) the British summer evenings. Abingdon pool sessions will continue until July, and Radley sessions will be held throughout the summer. As usual, please do fill up these sessions which are a fantastic benefit to Club members and come with no extra cost.

A big thank you to Jon and Lucy for volunteering to do lake safety tomorrow morning – when everybody takes their turn to help just a little bit it makes the whole Club run very smoothly and safely. There are still plenty of spaces for swimmers and it’s going to be a lovely morning so feel free to sign up. It’s also a great opportunity to socialise with other members over a coffee afterwards. Any questions about this session or anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

It’s also been great to see some informal groups of evening rides of Club members going out during the week, a throw back to pre-covid times. These tend to be tactical depending on the weather but feel free to post any planned rides on the Club facebook page or ask me to promote them in newsletters.

This Sunday Katie is leading a medium paced club ride in the 60-70km range. No mention of cake / coffee strategy but I’m sure that’s an unintentional omission! Katie is also organising an entry for the Didcot Phoenix 10 mile individual time trial which is being held on 7th July at West Hanney. Just let Katie know if you’re interested (pm me if you need her contact info).

Finally tomorrow sees the Women’s Tour passing along many of our favourite training roads en route from Chipping Norton to our very own St Giles in central Oxford. Amazingly the forecast is warm and sunny for once, so it should prove a great spectating event. More details here including spectator info, road closures and estimated timing.

Have a great week everyone!
