Ice, Wind, No Fire – Oxford Tri Newsletter

Good Evening Oxford Tri Family

I hope everyone is well. I’m writing this on Thursday night, post taking part in our Horspath Track Session coached by Lefteris featuring many 800s. I experienced brain freeze for the first time this year, and no it wasn’t from the half tub of Ben and Jerrys I had when I got home but those first couple of laps. Kudos to anyone who has been out and about in these conditions in the past week. Living down here over the past couple of years has definitely turned me into a southern softy, much to my Scottish family’s amusement.

Anyway, enough thinking about the cold. The Chilly Duathlon which is part of our club champs gets a mention later, but for now let me extend a toasty warm welcome to any new members who have joined us since the start of the year. We are so delighted that you have joined our ever-growing family. With many busy sessions at the moment a reminder that sign-ups open 48hrs before the session starts. I know that there are even people who set alarms to make sure that they get into those busy swims.

After track last week I mentioned to those there that as a club we are really looking to grow as a club together. With this in mind and a desire to be more transparent as we lead the club going forward, the committee would like to extend an invitation for any members to attend our next Committee Meeting. This will be in person at the Victoria Arms on the 6th of February at 7:30pm. If you would like to come along, please do drop me a message or if you have anything that you would like raise then please also get in touch.

I hope you all have a great week.

God Bless

Craig

Chilly Duathlon

Our first Club Championship Event of the year is the Chilly Duathlon which takes place on the 5th of March this year down near Chippenham at Castle Combe Race Track. I first took part in this event almost 8 years ago as a University Student. It was my first ever multi-sport event and I absolutely loved it. The course is fantastic you run around the outside of the race track and then you cycle on it. Trust me you won’t cycle on a better surface this year and this an amazing event if you have never tried anything like it before. The only possible down side, they call it the chilly for a reason and no you don’t have to eat chillies in transition…

We have already have an amazing number of Oxford Tri members signed up and it would be awesome to see even more! We have also secured a club discount code to enter which can be found here along with details of the Club Championships. As we are trying to be more sustainable as a club, closer to the event we will be organising some lift shares. If transport would be an issue, please do get in touch with me at chair@oxfordtri.co.uk

Bike and Run Time Trial (BARTT)

BaRTTs will once again be returning to the Oxford Tri calendar. For those of you whom have never experienced a BaRTT this is a monthly training-based session which consists of a Bike and Run. Members start in groups of similar abilities with time gaps between each group. This encompasses a handicap element with slower athletes heading off first with faster athletes starting later. I have heard many great things about the club. BaRTTs and I am excited that they are going to be returning soon.

With this in mind we are looking for a handful of members to become “Team BaRTT”. This team will help to organise and facilitate these sessions along with keeping the series results up to date. This is an amazing way to give back to the club.  Check out some photos from the OxTri archive below. If you are interested in being part of the BaRTT Team please contact me at chair@oxfordtri.co.uk

Oxfordshire Cross Country League

With 2 rounds left, one in the Cotswolds and one at Henley, there is still time to join those mad triathletes that also enjoy running in muddy fields – the next entry cut-off is 27th January. In order to confirm your place at the event you will need to purchase an English Athletics Membership and then pay for the remaining races, links below.
