Weekly Update 25 September 2022

Hi Everyone

Plenty of updates this week!

Firstly you’ll see that I have separately sent out to all members the Notice for our 2022 Annual General Meeting for 18 October at Oxsrad. Please mark the date in your diaries and try to attend if possible as there are some very important decisions that the Committee need to make for the remainder of the year, and we are also seeing a number of the Committee step back a bit after some long stints in some cases. I just want to thank everyone on the Committee for all their time and effort over the past three years as with the Covid times it’s definitely not been an easy gig. There will be a virtual attendance option as well as that seems to be very convenient and popular and we want to maximise participation.

Moving onto more fun matters, Friday 4th November has now been set as the Annual Awards date with our venue again being kindly provided by our friends at Oxsrad. Look out for some more details but in the meantime hold the date in your diaries. Many thanks to Social Secretary Katie for organising – and expect a tap on the shoulder for some volunteeers to help with the coordination of food and drink, and setting up and clearing up afterwards … (Note to self to go and log my race results from this year’s Club Champs races as requested by Captain Sarah).

In terms of training we’re now firmly back in the autumn groove with FOUR pool sessions a week included in your membership, plus our usual track and turbo from home to get the legs working. The Committee also agreed to support the return to Static bike sessions for some in person interaction and training motivation. Please support these sessions that the Club and Coaches organise and volunteer their time and expertise for. We’ve noticed as a Committee that engagement doesn’t seem to have picked up as it used to in pre-covid days, so any questions at all (or thoughts about Club matters more generally) then please just drop me a PM.

Calling all cross-country runners – your Club needs you! The Oxfordshire XC league is now being finalised for the winter season. The first race is Newbury Showground on 6 November and there will be the usual sign ups but it’s not too soon to do some planning and dig out your spikes/ trail shoes. More details on the season here. Many thanks to Kelly for coordinating, it’s a very different fee and organisational set up this year following difficulties and both funding and venue booking in the past years so look out for the changes.

Finally it’s now getting very close to the Ironman World Championships … This year we have an unprecedented six Club members competing across the two days of racing and spread across a real range of age groups and a mix of first timers and repeat offenders. It’s the first return to Big Island since 2019, and so it’s shaping up to be a big party. We’ll try to include some news and pictures of what’s happening over the next fortnight in our Club updates and race reports of course.

Have a great week everyone.

Best wishes,

Nick Wenban-Smith – chair@oxfordtri.co.uk
