Weekly Update 21 May 2021

Hi Everyone

Hello to our new members this week – read ahead for lots of good news and events announcements!

Firstly the start of the race season proper with some really strong performances racing last weekend at Eton Dorney, Cotswold 51fiver and virtual SLOB duathlon. It’s lovely to see all the posts on on the Club’s Facebook page reminding us that triathlon is for all in addition to those at the pointy end of the field. Please do post results and photos, personal achievements to finish in the wind and rain are all just as welcome as winning times in the sunshine with a tailwind the whole bike leg!

If you’re looking for some inspiration for events there’s always the Club Champs events series ….

Even though it looks a bit like November with the gusts of wind and driving rain this afternoon, I am reliably informed that the lake IS finally getting warmer. Only a few places left for tomorrow morning so what better way to start your Saturday morning? In a change to previous guidance for Club open water swim sessions, and now that the use of tow floats is mandatory, we are allowing experienced swimmers who prefer not to wear a wet suit to go ‘skins’ at the lake – although the general advice is to wear a wetsuit for warmth and buoyancy. Please identify yourself to the safety team in advance if you’re not wearing a wetsuit.

With our first session back at Radley pretty much full immediately, we look forward to some further swim sessions starting this week at lovely Leys pool on Thursday and Kidlington from Friday 11 June. Just a polite reminder – please share slots nicely.

Coming up next Bank Holiday weekend on Sunday 30 May we are also holding a social special cross-country event convening afterward at the Maybush Inn at Newbridge. There are 5k, 10k and 15k runs routes plus an optional dip in the Thames to wash all the mud off afterwards. Run in your own time and pace, meet up afterwards for a drink and some food!

Finally, don’t forget to sign up to the Tri Training Bingo competition in aid of the Oxford Hospitals charity.

Have a great weekend, good luck for those racing at Marlow on Sunday!

Any questions, as ever just ping me.
