Weekly Update 1 October 2021

Hi Everyone,

October already, and it’s starting to feel a lot like autumn now and time to dust off the turbo trainers and cross-country running shoes. Even so there’s been some beautiful weather for training outside and there’s a lot to be cheerful about.

Firstly there is the Club Awards ‘Evening’ tomorrow from 3pm at Oxsrad. With 80 or so club members coming along for all or a part of it promises to be a proper celebration of all the great achievements of Club members over the past 12 months. I know that for many of us it has been very disruptive and unsettling not to have all of our face to face training and racing to keep us happy and healthy but finally we can all meet up properly which I know has been a really important milestone for many members.

A few points for those coming:

Firstly, please ensure you take a Lateral Flow Test in the morning and do not attend if it’s positive or if you have been in close contact with someone who’s positive or you have the other symptoms of covid e.g. fever and loss of taste and smell (this should be common sense!).

Secondly, while there will be a BBQ and cups for drinks please bring you own food and drink in order to minimise contact and to make this easy and covid safe.

Thirdly while we are going to use the big hall at Oxsrad due to the weather forecast being 95% plus chance of heavy rain, there is an outside covered area and so you might want to bring some warm clothes to wear to talk to any members who prefer to be outdoors.

Still not too late to sign up … HERE!

It was great to hear the some really impressive results from last weekend’s racing, thanks Neil for his really nice write up about his triumph in Hever middle distance. Best of luck to Grace racing Barcelona 70.3 this weekend!

Now that bar some international events triathlon is pretty much over for the year I would encourage members to consider running in the cross-country league over the winter months. It is really very good training and also very sociable. Full details here.

On an entirely different note I would encourage any and all Club members to wear their kit with pride on Monday and cheer on the Women’s Tour of Britain as they race from Bicester to Banbury via the TT route from Ambrosden to Islip and into Oxford via Woodeaton and Marsh Lane before travelling up the Marston Road to Magdalen College and back out of town via the Cowley Road. Full route and timing details here but they should be at the Plain 11:48. Very exciting to see professional cyclists racing roads we all know so well (and busting all of our QOMs on Strava!).

Finally welcome to our two new members this week – now we are up to 182!

Any questions, as ever just ping me.
