Weekly Update 13 March 2021

Hi Everyone

Spring is well and truly upon us now, with both hail and sunshine making an appearance on my ride today. That (plus cross winds) might be the weather on race day so get away from screens and work stress and get out there in the fresh air!

Exciting news as we introduce some new high intensity interval training (HIITs) with some flexibility and strength work – give one or both of these new sessions a go and literally put a spring into your weekly training schedule! There’s a choice of 7:30am on Tuesday for the early birds and/or 18:00 on Wednesday evening so take your pick. We have specifically put in a morning session in response to requests from you the members so give it a go and let us know what you think. Currently this is a bit of a trial and if there are tweaks or further requests that we should accommodate then let us know. Thanks once again to our dedicated coaching team for arranging this.

Looking forward a bit we are seeking out club members with paddleboarding and/or canoeing skills who would be prepared to do some water safety training paid for by the club in order to help support our open water swim sessions at Dorchester Sailing Club. Thanks to Covid we did accumulate a bit of a surplus last year and so we really do want to invest that in these vital skills sets. We are also looking at making some capital purchases such as canoes and paddleboards to keep down at the lake to ensure these sessions can be held safely and with minimum inconvenience and reliance of a few key individuals. Please email me directly if you can help out here. We’re looking to start again as soon as the water temperature reaches 11 degrees and the target start date is 10 April which will be very exciting!

Thanks again to Chris for hosting the quiz last week with some frankly surreal rounds (Goth or Roth was my personal favourite).

Once again we’ve got a full schedule of sessions next week with an event or training session at least once a day. On Wednesday evening you can do the HIIT workout and then relax with a beer to learn about the science behind why this sort of basic strength training is so important in building lean muscle strength.

Any questions, as ever just ping me.
