Lake Social, Parking and Club Champs – Oxford Tri Newsletter

Good Evening Oxford Tri Family

I hope that this finds you well. Firstly, a massive thanks to all those who followed our parking request at the weekend at Queenford. I had a super appreciative chat with I believe one of the main people down there which was just really great. I will keep in the little reminder for those who were not there at the weekend.

Also, with Blenheim Triathlon taking place good luck to all those racing but I suspect that this also means that we might be slightly lower on numbers at the lake. This does however mean that we will need people to step into the safety roles both of which are currently empty. I’ll drop the links below, if you are not sure what the roles involve, I am more than happy to talk you through them.

Finally, a big welcome to a number of new members who have joined over the past few weeks. We are delighted to have you join the Oxford Tri Family. Please do make sure to make yourself known at your first few sessions and if you have any questions then don’t hesitate to reach out or ask someone who looks like they’ve been here a while (I’ll let them decide if that’s a compliment or not).

Have a great weekend.

God Bless

Craig

Burgers and Beers at the Lake Club Social

We are excited to share that we are going to be having a Burgers and Beers Social at Queensford Lake on Wednesday the 7th of June. This will involve swimming as normal 7-8pm with the BBQ and Beers afterwards (non-alcoholic drinks will also be provided). The cost will be £10 per person and this will include a minimum of 1 burger and 2 beverages, payment will be taken on the night. We would love for friends and family to join us and on this occasion, they will be able to join in the 7-8pm swim as long as they are an adult, can swim 500m unaided, have the correct kit (Tow Float and Bright Swim Cap) and sign our disclaimer.

Please sign up using this google sheet link if you are planning on joining us. And please either sign up for your guests using this link or send them the link to fill out.

Saturday Parking at the Lake

Once again thanks for a really great response to our request to change where we part at the weekend. For those who didn’t catch this our hosts they have asked that on Saturday mornings if we could park in the designated open water swimmers carpark.

This parking can be accessed from Drayton Rd. I have included a google maps link here and included a picture below. If you are parking on gravel on Saturday mornings you are in the wrong place and will most likely be politely asked to move (unless you have a valid reason for parking there i.e. Blue Badge). Please, please, please follow this. We have a really good relationship with the lake and would like to keep it this way. They are more than happy for us to park in the gravel car park on the Wednesday nights.

Dorney Triathlon – Club Champs 10th June

A final call for our next race in our Club Championships is the Dorney Standard Triathlon or Standard Aqua Bike on the 10th of June. For those who have not raced here before its fast and flat (often windy too). But it’s a great event. It is held around the rowing lake which means that there is no traffic on the bike other than your fellow competitors, however you do have to remember how many laps you have done. I have found electrical tape on my handlebars very handy for keeping track of the laps. A great race which I am sure many members will be taking part in.

Oxfordshire Triathlon Series – Club Champs 2nd July

Trying to be a little more organised the next event in our Club Champs after Dorney is the closest one of the year The Oxfordshire Triathlon Series at Queenford Lake. It’s a 1km open water swim, a scenic, fast yet challenging 35km bike route and a flat 7.5km run.

In 2019 Abingdon Vale Triathletes had 20 members racing. Not that were competitive but we think we can beat that! Thanks to our club captain Sarah we have also managed to secure a 10% discount which makes it a really reasonable price considering the distance. Use the code ‘OXTRIDISC’ when signing up. I have already signed up myself along with a number of members, will you be joining us?

Like Newbury we will arrange to go out for some lunch afterwards if there is enough interest.
