Famila Oxford Triatlo – Oxford Tri Newsletter

Boa noite familia Oxford Triatlo,

Yup, you guessed it I’m still in Portugal however I have moved cities. For the past couple of days I have been exploring Porto in the north of the country. Porto is famous for its port wine, its bridges and sunsets. Check the view below from last night and apparently according to the locals that was rubbish due to it being winter, so the sun sets slightly too south meaning it doesn’t reflect in the river. Anyway, they have this amazing culture here that pretty much the whole city stops and gathers together to watch the sunset. As someone who is constantly on the go it has been a real revelation just to sit down and to watch the world go by. I can also confirm that Porto like Lisbon is hilly, however my runs have been focused mainly on running alongside the river to the coast so for now the hills have been avoided.

Anyway, enough about my galivanting and back to all things Oxford Tri. Firstly, a warm welcome to a handful of members who have joined within the past week or so. It is amazing to have you join our family. Please do make yourself at home and get to know the rest of our family at the number of sessions which take place across each week. As always there are a couple of key things highlighted below however, I wanted to highlight that we will be meeting as a committee this Monday. If you would like to attend or have anything that you would like me to raise, please do get in touch.

As always, I hope you have a great week and I look forward to seeing you at some sessions next week or at the XC on Sunday.

God Bless

Craig

Radley Triathlon

As mentioned last week we are going to be hosting our Club Triathlon at Radley on the 29th of May this year. To make this happen we need you our Oxford Triathlon Club Family. The event provides a significant income for the club which is directly re-invested in you our club members. We need 30 volunteers minimum to make this happen so please can you make sure that, if possible, you are prioritising this in your diaries. I am planning on sending a separate email next week after we have finalised things at the committee meeting.

Chilly Duathlon

A reminder that our first Club Championship Event of the year is the Chilly Duathlon which takes place on the 5th of March this year down near Chippenham at Castle Combe Race Track. I first took part in this event almost 8 years ago as a University Student. It was my first ever multi-sport event and I absolutely loved it. The course is fantastic you run around the outside of the race track and then you cycle on it. Trust me you won’t cycle on a better surface this year and this an amazing event if you have never tried anything like it before. The only possible down side, they call it the chilly for a reason and no you don’t have to eat chillies in transition…

We have already have an amazing number of Oxford Tri members signed up and it would be awesome to see even more! We have also secured a club discount code to enter which can be found here along with details of the Club Championships. As we are trying to be more sustainable as a club, closer to the event we will be organising some lift shares. If transport would be an issue, please do get in touch with me at chair@oxfordtri.co.uk

Bike and Run Time Trial (BARTT)

BaRTTs will once again be returning to the Oxford Tri calendar. For those of you whom have never experienced a BaRTT this is a monthly training-based session which consists of a Bike and Run. Members start in groups of similar abilities with time gaps between each group. This encompasses a handicap element with slower athletes heading off first with faster athletes starting later. I have heard many great things about the club. BaRTTs and I am excited that they are going to be returning soon.

With this in mind we are looking for a handful of members to become “Team BaRTT”. This team will help to organise and facilitate these sessions along with keeping the series results up to date. This is an amazing way to give back to the club.  Check out some photos from the OxTri archive below. If you are interested in being part of the BaRTT Team please contact me at chair@oxfordtri.co.uk

Trial Memberships

Finally, a reminder about our amazing trial memberships. Our Trial memberships enable individuals the opportunity to experience all things Oxford Tri. Anyone who does sign up for a trial membership will be able to access a maximum of 4 sessions over a 31-day period. This will not include our open water swim sessions and will there be limited to 4 trialists for our busier swims.

Do you know someone that you think would feel right at home here? Or someone who has always mentioned doing that triathlon one day. Why not encourage them to get in touch either via the Club Facebook page or Club Website
