Evening all, just like busses we’ve got a second newsletter in quick succession, please excuse the double postings, we didn’t want anything to distract from the Aquathlon messages in the last one and so here’s the more regular update, although we start with happy news we don’t get to share that often…..
Engagement News!
Over the years we have a proud history of being a place where members meet, train, socialise and then sometimes that magic spark happens and we get an engagement or a marriage!! Congratulations to Bev Dobrenz and James Bradley who got engaged a month or so ago now, See the below fabulous photo, were they out riding when it happened?? You’ll have to ask them to find out and of course the whole OxfordTri family sends our best wishes to you both.

Ok I have to post the links to the Aquathlon and BBQ again…
We’d absolutely love you to join us for an evening of fun competition and a social BBQ at the lake from 7 til 9ish on this coming Wednesday evening.
Enter the aquathlon here:
If you’re not feeling the aquathlon, but still fancy a social at the lake, we’ll be flipping burgers and serving cold drinks!
If you want to join for the BBQ here’s the sign up:
https://www.oxfordtri.uk/product/oxford-aquathlon-bbq/
there’s a nominal fee of £10 to include a burger and a drink. If you volunteered at the April Ox Aquathlon I will message your sign up link separately.
Please support Grace by attending her dedicated 6 week plan at track!
You may know Grace, she’s an amazing athlete and now turning her hand to coaching, to complete her Group coach award with British Triathlon so she can lead club sessions, she has to deliver 6 linked sessions at the track. Week 1 will be a Cooper test and the start of learning about foot placement and each week there will be coaching and progression to see if she can help you improve your Cooper test score in 6 weeks. You don’t have to attend all of the sessions but if you can make 1/2 of the 6 and specifically the first and last, that’ll both be a huge help for her, but also I believe you’ll get a huge amount out of the sessions. Sign up in the usual way and hoper to see you Thursday at Horspath!!
New Wednesday Swim session in September
I write this section with a bit of a heavy heart as I know some of you are big fans of our coached swims in Radley, but I’m afraid to say we won’t be returning there in September.
The cold hard facts are we are not able to fill the session anymore and it’s too expensive to run on the numbers we were getting last winter. That said, we have managed to secure a second slot at the Leys pool on a Wednesday evening from 9 till 10pm, the cost is about 50% of hiring Radley college and is closer to more of our member base.
I’m sorry we couldn’t do a full review including member feedback on both the leaving Radley and Session at Leys. The reality here is we don’t get options on pool times particularly, we have to take openings when they come and the saving to the club is circa £1500 a year, we believe atleast as many members will attend at Leys despite the later time, so the committee voted unanimously to make the change now.
Of course if you have further questions please feel free to contact me @ Chair@oxfordtri.co.uk

Open Water Swims
The season is in full flow and we’re constantly trying to make the lake as safe as possible for all who attend, but in order to run the sessions we need safety officers to make it happen.
You should now be able to sign up for any safety session between now and the end of our open water season and I’ve asked for there to be 1 Land Safety Sign up and 3 Lake safety officers. If we get 4 people signed up then potentially everyone can swim for atleast 30minutes each, so please do sign up to do your bit to support these sessions, especially if you’ve enjoyed the benefit of swimming over the season so far.
If you’re not sure about it, don’t worry, We have 4 super safety officers and one of them will give you a full briefing in advance of the session so you can provide the excellent cover we need to put on a safe swim.
Whatsapp Broadcast Channel –
For those who don’t use Facebook we also have a WhatsApp broadcast channel, this is only for urgent messages, like cancelling a session due to bad weather, or other urgent notes that can’t wait for the next newsletter so please consider joining the channel via the following link!!
