Marriage News!
No not James and Bev… yet….. Unfortunately I couldn’t quite get a photo in time for the last newsletter but back in July we also had a marriage in the club (to go with the engagement of James and Bev incase you’ve forgotten that last newsletters big news!). Nick and Lucy have previously Chair of the club and Treasurer respectively. It’s great to see they brought an exercise theme to their big day!! Congratulations both, wishing you all the best for your future!!

BBQ end of season Social on Wednesday evening.
Sorry for the late notice but I really hope, if you can make it, you can join us for an end of season BBQ after a swim on Wednesday evening, we’ll swim at the EARLIER TIME of 6:30 given the shortening nights.
Payment on the night £10 for burger and two drinks!
Spond is coming
We are in fairly advanced testing on a club management app called Spond, this is to replace our website (for membership management and other related actions like signing up for sessions.
This has a number of advantages, a critical one is the return of waiting lists!! This is a key feature we’ve missed in the website but also a variety of other features which will make everything more streamlined, no need for WhatsApp groups, comms through the app can be in the form of newsletters and Polls and of course everyone who is a member will have the app so stops the problem of having 900 Facebook members when you’re talking to 160 members some of whom don’t use Facebook.
Anyway we think this is a great change for us but if you’ve got any concerns please so get in touch with myself of Lee Watson our webmaster via the Chair@oxfordtri.co.uk or webmaster@oxfordtri.co.uk addresses.
Committee roles
Have you thought about getting involved with the committee to help run the club??
We will have a fairly large exit of committee members this year and so our AGM will be interesting to see if we can fill the roles but just as a flavour the following are likely to be up for people to step into:
Chair
Treasurer
Club Secretary
Membership Secretary
Social Media Secretary
If any of these roles is of interest or you’d just like to give back please do get in touch if you have any questions.
Reminder of NEW Wednesday Swim session in September
As we start our Autumn winter schedule shortly remember we’re starting a Wednesday evening swim at Leys on the 17th September, we’ll be back at Kidlington on Friday 19th September to.
Club Series 2025.
The last Oxford Tri Club Championship Series Race is:
The Reading Triathlon, taking place on 14th Sept, Entries are now closed but hopefully you’ll be able to bag valuable points if you are taking part. The club series hasn’t been very well supported this year, nearly all the organisers have commented on giving us a discount code which hardly anyone has taken advantage of. I’d be fascinated to hear your thoughts on how we can reinvigorate this series next year.
Cross Country season is here and we need an assistant manager!
Obviously the changing season means Cross Country Returns!! Clive Shackell has agreed to lead our merry troupe again this year but he needs an assistant, nothing majorly burdensome just someone to cover when he’s on holiday with getting people signed up and organised and a small amount of help with team registration and member sign up, please let me know if you’re interested in helping out in this key part of our winter programme.
Club Dinner Save the date Friday 14th November
Our end of season dinner venue and date has been booked!! Please save the date for Friday 14th November at Branca in Jericho.
We’ll publish more details shortly.
What would you like to see this winter from the club?
I’m super conscious that we are a Tri club that is becoming more like a swim club recently! We get loads of sign ups for swims, the lake is super popular but we’ve seen dwindling numbers for our track offering and our Spin sessions, I’d hate to see these sessions drop out of our calendar but the cost and what our members want has to be considered.
Have a think and let me know via the chair@oxfordtri.co.uk email how you’d like to engage with running and riding with the club.
As a club member there are many other ways you can get involved.
Come to sessions and socials – meet fellow members, check the calendar for venues, timings and sign-ups.
Become a coach or leader – speak to Sean Nicolle if you are interested leadcoach@oxfordtri.co.uk
Share planned runs/cycles on Facebook if you are happy for others to join you – https://www.facebook.com/groups/oxfordtri
Volunteering – The Oxford Half is coming, they’re looking for volunteers, I’ll send a separate message to all about it shortly but keep October 12th free in your diary and you could earn a place in next years event by helping out!
