Weekly Update 24 June 2022

Hi Everyone

It was lovely to see a record number of Club members down at Queenford Lake on Tuesday evening, helped I’m sure by the amazing weather on the summer solstice.

I’ve had a few questions about what’s involved with the safety volunteers, and there is a link to the briefing instructions and risk assessment from the sign up page, but do feel free to ask me. (These is also a hard copy kept in the box at the lake for ease of reference). Basically the safety team act as spotters for the swimmers and make sure everyone is safe and happy, and also exit the water before water skiing resumes. There’s always lots of friendly support and help from Club members and the team at Queenford lake Waterskiing and Wakeboarding club. There’s no qualifications needed but being happy sitting on a kayak is key to the water based role. We do need volunteers to keep these member run sessions going so please do think about supporting the Club and volunteering – you will be well rewarded with coffee and cakes from the Wandering Kitchen afterwards! And do feel free to bring your own paddleboard if that takes your fancy. We are still looking for one volunteer for tomorrow morning … hint hint!

Sadly the days are now getting shorter but there’s plenty of opportunity still to swim in the lake which have now been our most popular sessions this year, and with the added bonus of meeting fellow Club members and catching up on training / injuries / race news. It’s a very pleasant temperature and definitely wetsuit optional, keep your eyes posted for social BBQ news from social secretary Katie.

As posted by Lee on the Club facebook page we have secured an opportunity for a group Club entry to do Blenheim Weekend Warrior next year and Lee is looking for numbers/ expressions of interest. Feel free to drop Lee a note or send me a PM to forward onto him.

Next week is the last swim session at Abingdon until the autumn as summer numbers drop right off, thanks to Coach Nick T for helping organise this new session for 2022, and as always to all of the wonderful coaching team for their support in running the sessions.

Have a great week,

Nick Wenban-Smith – chair@oxfordtri.co.uk
