Weekly Update 18 September 2021

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations, thank you’s and some dates/ reminders this week.

Firstly really well done Rebecca for her win as overall fastest female at Outlaw Bowood last weekend. Nice interview and some film footage on the Outlaw Facebook page, and write up here by Guy. Many thanks to all of our fantastic volunteers, Lisa together with Mrs and Ms WS, led by Chief Coach Nathan.

Congratulations are also in order for all Club members racing at Blenheim and Reading, lots of great results for our weekend warriors and also a nice second overall female for captain Sarah.

It’s a bit too easy to forget that some Club members are also managing to race internationally. Well done to them for navigating all of the testing and other logistical challenges: Fiona raced ITU Worlds at Challenge Almere last weekend, and this weekend coaches Jane and Ian are in Slovenia for a 70.3 and Simon is in beautiful Cervia for Ironman Italy (enjoy the best post race food and drink in the world Simon!). Good luck to everyone racing tomorrow whether internationally or at Outlaw X.

Only two weeks to go until the annual awards and BBQ on 2 October, outdoors with a marquee from 3pm onwards. Format is very flexible and family friendly, just drop in for as much or as little as you like, sign up here. Don’t forget that the deadline for nominations is tomorrow evening, so let’s get recognising all of the fantastic achievements of Club members including the prestigious Mike Dunmore Award for Club member of the year.

For those who are interested in sports science research there is a really great opportunity. You may have heard of super fuel ketones, as used (allegedly) by Ineos. Further research is taking place into the impact on performance, so if you’re male 18-45 with over two years’ training in cycling and running under your belt then contact adam.isherwood@dpag.ox.ac.uk for more info. VO2 performance stats and plenty of other data will be made available to participants.

Finally, welcome to our two new members this week – we are now up to 178!

Any questions, as ever just ping me.
