Weekly Update 14 May 2021

Hi Everyone

Lots of reasons to be cheerful this week as we look forward to club pool sessions starting again, and pubs and restaurants opening up properly. And not necessarily in that order!

The unsettled late spring weather continues to disappoint in sharp contrast to last year’s amazing weather, but I hope that everyone is starting to enjoy their open water swims and some evening rides (need some showers to see any rainbows, right!). Glad to see our Saturday morning open water swims at Dorchester Sailing Club fill up, there’s still some spaces for tomorrow if you’re quick, come on in the water is gradually warming up …

Just a gentle reminder that we do need volunteers to help out with safety for our open water swim sessions; they cannot take place without Club members’ giving a bit back and it’s not fair to rely purely on a hardy core team. So if you’re a regular OW swimmer please make sure you step up at least a couple of times during the season so that I don’t have to send nagging messages or worst case we have to cancel the session.

Today also sees the start of the Tri Training Bingo competition in aid of the Oxford Hospitals charity – sign up here now! There’s a Chair’s unofficial extra category for best bluebells photo taken on a ride or run and posted on the Club’s Facebook page.

Good luck to all those racing either virtually this evening in the duathlon against Swindon and Leighton Buzzard Tri Clubs, or In Real Life at Eton Dorney tomorrow.

Welcome (and welcome back!) to all our new members this week! Now approaching 150 and growing each week which is very pleasing to see.
